Fort Worth - West Berry GrandMarc
GrandMarc at West Berry Place is an off-campus student housing complex that was built by Phoenix Properties in 2006 on West Berry Street just south of Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth. The six-story mixed-use building includes approximately 240 apartments with 35,000 sq. ft. of retail, and a 600 space parking garage. The developmentis working to spur the revitalization of West Berry Street into a dense mixed-use urban neighborhood along the southern edge of TCU.
The public infrastructure portion of the project was funded under the
005-2006 Sustainable Development Call for Projects. NCTCOG funded $2.4 million with additional funds from the City of Fort Worth for pedestrian amenities and street reconstruction to make West Berry Street a more inviting area for pedestrians. NCTCOG funded the rebuilding of sidewalks and adding of landscaping to West Berry Street from University Drive to Waits Avenue. This was part of a larger project by the City of Fort Worth to rebuild West Berry Street from Stadium Drive to Evans Avenue.
The area has seen many other improvements in recent years, in addition to the GrandMarc. A block west of the development, Barnes and Noble opened a 21,000 sq.ft. two-story bookstore in 2008 to serve the university. GrandMarc and the projects on campus are part of TCU’s Master Plan to transform the university into an urban college campus surrounded by a vibrant cosmopolitan neighborhood.
